Tips For Shopping Online From A Celebrity Stylist

During this quarantine, as you know, all shopping has been online only! I actually love shopping online, even for clothes, but I recently ordered some pretty disappointing (and hilarious) pieces that looked so different than they did online, including a “turquoise” shirt that was really dark forest green, pants that were too big and a blazer that looked like a lab coat. Thankfully for all of us, my good friend Jazmin Whitley, a full time celebrity stylist, texted me some tips in response to my questions, and I wanted to share them with you:

Q: What should I look for to know if something will fit the way I want?

A: When shopping online it’s really important to check the measurement chart because the fit & sizing will vary from brand to brand. Also knowing your body type will help - choosing cuts that compliment your shape will become easier. Lastly, be sure to read the description of the fabric to know if the clothing item will have stretch.

Q: What should I look for to know if something will be flattering on me?

A: Again, knowing your body shape is very important. For something to flatter your figure it must be the correct size. Be sure to pick out styles that bring attention to the parts of your body that you feel most confident about. For example I personally feel insecure about my arms so I don’t typically select styles that are completely sleeveless. This just ensures that whatever I end up buying I will feel 100% comfortable in! Feeling comfortable often translates in your body language and will look fabulous & flattering!

Q: Anything to avoid when shopping online?

A: Super cheap fast fashion items usually don’t fit the best and fall apart easily. I would suggest shopping sales of better quality items. You can also check out The Real Real for discount designer items for key pieces in your wardrobe. There are garments on there for as low as $15

Q: Any other tips for shopping online successfully?

A: Be sure not to buy final sale items, you should always have the option of trying it on and sending it back if it doesn’t work for you.
